Barn Burner pride themselves on their signature sound which boasts being unable to fit a genre. A real enjoyable mix of stoner, classic and heavy metal makes of exciting expectations behind their second album, Bangers II: Scum of the Earth. Guitarist and frontman Kevin Keegan speaks with Miss Bomb about the challenges of a second full length.
Miss Bomb: Hey there, how are things within the band right now?
Kevin Keegan: Really good, we do a lot of laughing which makes it pretty easy to be around each other.
MB: Bangers II: Scum of the Earth is out in July, can you say anything more about it?
KK: It is a bit of a concept. The idea behind it is the struggle between those who think for themselves and those who have their worldview shaped by someone or something else. Pretty much fundamentalist organized religion versus everybody else who might not subscribe to rigid ideologies. Don’t let the serious side of it fool you though, the use of humor is also at the forefront for us, we don’t want anyone to think we take ourselves very seriously.
MB: As this is the second full length, what was the difference in recording the first full length?
KK: Having the experience of recording the first album helped provide guidance for this latest effort. We didn’t have time to waste this time around, we knew the mistakes we made last time and avoided them this time. I think we will be even more efficient next time.
MB: Tell us more about the artwork on the album.
KK: We are keeping consistent with having our mascot Bernard Burner as the centerpiece of our album covers. This time around he’s sort of a messiah type character showing the struggling head bangers of the world how to party properly.
MB: What were the biggest challenges about this album?
KK: Time was a challenge. I wish we had more time in the studio to do more. The more I listen to the record the more I wish I had added or changed certain things.
MB: You are currently touring with 3 Inches of Blood and Cancer Bats – how is that going?
KK: Really great! Those dudes are good friends of ours so it was a pretty natural to just pick up where we left off.
MB: Are you going to be touring the UK anytime soon?
KK: I hope so! we don’t have a booking agent in the UK yet so we are trying to figure that out.
MB: What are your plans for the rest of the year?
KK: More touring and a couple of music videos are in the works, stay tuned!
MB: Any final thoughts?
KK: Peace in the pit!
Bangers II: Scum of the Earth is released July 6.
